5 Ways to Fall in Love With Yourself

From Black love to romantic love, love is everywhere during the month of February. However, self-love is often forgotten. Practicing self-love is not simply about putting on makeup or marveling at yourself in the mirror, but, for me, self-love is about caring and loving yourself enough to actively practice behaviors that have a positive impact on your life. It’s all about being mindful of what you think, do and say and how those things positively or negatively impact your life.

We all know that we can be our own worst enemies. Holding on to the past, comparing yourself and negative self-talk are some of the ways we can be hard on and unloving to ourselves. Below you’ll find five ways that we can fall in love with ourselves a bit more and a special Valentine’s gift to remind you how bomb you are!

FIVE WAYS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOURSELF

Practice Better Self-Care: From proper sleep to eating healthy, properly taking care of yourself will make you feel better about yourself. It’s hard to talk bad or not love something that you are taking such good care of.  Read my self-care post to come up with some ideas that you can implement into your life.

Forgive: Don’t be so hard on yourself. Let go of past mistakes and pains. Let go of self-defeating beliefs. The past is long and gone. Beating yourself up over things that happened in the past is pointless. We can’t change the past. All energy should be used to create a wonderful present and an amazing future.

Watch Ya’ Mouth: Watch what you say about yourself. Make sure you are speaking life over yourself. Here’s a list of positive affirmations that you can use. Remember to not say anything to yourself that you would not let someone else say to you.

Lifestyle Audit: Take some time to think about the habits you have and if they match up with the life you want. If things are not working, think of simple and effective ways to break bad habits and create change. Additionally, examine unhealthy friendships, relationships, and conditions. If things don’t bring you joy or encourage growth, let them go.

Remember What God Says: God has some amazing things to say about you. How could you not love someone who is beautifully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Keep God’s word close. Last year I wrote a post about how God sees us. You can read that here. If God is true, what he says about you is also true.

I hope this list encourages you to be more mindful and loving to yourself. Treat yourself with care.

I made a Valentine’s/floral version of a print I carry in my Etsy shop. Hope this print serves as a reminder of how awesome you are. Just click the image below to download it.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Remember, you got this and God’s got you.

Love,
Jenell
