In October, I decided to get a jump start on my 2018 goals. I wanted to balance motherhood, being a wife, my blog and my Etsy shop a lot better. I didn’t want for life to happen (You know, Doctor’s appointments, sick kids, meetings, laundry) and I not get any work done. I knew that I had time in my schedule I just had to figure out how to best utilize it. I implemented 3 things into my routine in October to help make sure I am making the most of my time and working towards my business and blogging goals. Although I talk about balancing motherhood and business, these tips would work fine with anyone trying to find time to work on their goals.
How I Balance Life, Blogging and Business
I Eat The Frog
Mark Twain said that if the first thing we do in the morning is to eat a live frog, we can go through the day knowing that the worst is behind us. So, that’s what I do. On days where I know I have a lot to do, I wake up around 5 am and I eat a frog. I do the toughest or most important task of my day. Doing this gives me a bit of grace. If I have to take one of my kids to the doctor or I am at the grocery store a bit longer than planned, because I already ate the frog I don’t feel anxious or feel the need to rush home to complete a project. No matter what happens throughout the day, I’m ok because I know I’ve already eaten the frog. In 2018, I plan to do this every day and not just on those busy days.
I Block Out My Days
Most of you all know that I run my blog and my Etsy shop, but I also sale on Ebay. So, I’m pulled in a few different directions. In order to handle everything, I set aside a day where I only focus on one task. For example, on Tuesdays, I focus on my Etsy shop. On that day I don’t do anything related to my blog or for Ebay. I do the same for my blog and for Ebay. This allows me to have laser focus on one task. And most importantly, when I’m done, I’m done. I’m not obsessed with being busy. So, if I complete all my Etsy task by noon, that gives me a bit time to relax, pick up or start dinner before I have to do school pickups.
This post you’re reading? Was written in November. I set aside 2 days to write and create graphics for all my blog posts. Occasionally some blog post requires me to write a bit closer to it is set to be published, but most posts are written a month in advance. Because I am not creating content weekly, I have more time to create new products, fill orders, focus on growing my blog and my shop. And most importantly, no matter how crazy my week goes, I know that I have content to post. One thing I want to improve in 2018 is automating my social media. This is especially important to me, because social media is just not my ministry. The times when I don’t automate my social media, unfortunately, I rarely post. So, because I know myself, I want to make this a priority in the new year.
These are a few things I’ve implemented that have helped me balance motherhood and business. It’s very easy to let being a mom and a wife overtake your day and push your dreams and goals to the back burner, but these 3 things have helped me make the most of my day and make sure I’m showing up for myself. I hope you can implement some of these tips. And if you have some tips, drop them in the comments!
Remember! You got this, and God’s got you!
