Hey! I wanted to share with you all something that happened to me last week. It touched my soul. It reminded me how quickly God can change a situation and how He always has our back. I hope my story serves as a reminder of how quickly God can change a situation.
Happy International Women’s Day!
The past couple of years have been all about the grind and showing up for yourself. But sometimes in the midst of the grind and showing up for ourselves, we forget to show up for those who show up for us. I know I am cheered on and supported by some amazing women who are doing life just like me. Thier support is a bonus to their friendship. I am not owed anything from them but friendship. But they still take some time to read my blog, share my posts or purchase from my shop. And for that, I am truly thankful. But beyond being thankful, I think I owe it to those who show up for me to show up for them.
We all need a little push sometimes. And lately, I’ve needed a big push. I’m not sure what’s going on with me. Actually, I do. Starting the new year sick really threw me off my game, and I’ve been playing catch up since. I love order and schedules, so not really being on a schedule has really been difficult for me. And playing catch up is exhausting and overwhelming. When trying to get back on track, there are few ways I pump myself up to get back on track, reading or listening to a self-development/business podcast is usually my go-to. But sometimes I come across motivational quotes that get me all the way together. So, I wanted to share with you all a few motivational quotes by some amazing Black women (it is Black History Month after all) that will get you back on track and ready to take over the world.
January is almost over! That was pretty quick. Well, for me it was. And a lot of In order to hold myself accountable and actually remember what happened each month, I plan to review my lessons and wins for the month and plan out my major goals for the following month. Let me know if you all enjoy posts like this.
In the past few months Love, Jenell’s audience has grown. YAY! I’ve seen everyone on Instagram sharing 5 random facts about themselves, so I thought it would be cool to share some random facts about myself on Love, Jenell. I figure this would be a good way for both new and old readers to learn a bit more about me. This list is full of things you wouldn’t know from my about me section or by scrolling through my Insta. I hope no one thinks I’m a little cray because of this list, lol.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the New Year and how often this can be a discouraging time, especially if you have big goals. It’s easy to feel like you aren’t doing enough. Sometimes it is difficult to see how your day to day actions impact your larger goals. We know we should be doing these small things. Sending the emails. Doing the research. Creating the content. But when results aren’t immediately seen, some people like to turn around or throw in the towel. I just want us to keep going. To not expect every day to be filled with big breaks, and for us to honor the small things that help us achieve our big goals.
We all need a pep talk sometimes. When you are starting a new venture or struggling to start, it’s easy to feel like we are in it alone. Somehow we tell ourselves that we are the first and only person struggling to find motivation or afraid of the unknown. It’s a lie. And these must-see TED talks help crush those fears. These successful women talk open and honest about the ups and downs of success.
For many of us, self-care seems selfish. How dare we take a time out of our day for ourselves. This is especially hard if we have spent the majority of our lives caring for others. We often think that things just won’t get done if we take a break. But sometimes we need to take a break to make sure things are doing to the best of our abilities. It’s very easy to neglect ourselves, but I think it’s important that we take time daily to make sure that we are loving to ourselves…even if it’s just a few minutes.
I think we can all admit that sometimes with the hustle and bustle of life we can forget to take care of ourselves. We can get so caught up in doing for others that doing things for ourselves may seem selfish. The realities of work, motherhood or entrepreneurship start to consume the little free time we do have. Here’s the thing though, we need me time. We need time to relax and fill ourselves up. Like the saying goes, we cannot pour from an empty cup. We have to be 100 percent in order to show up as the best version of ourselves. I want my family and friends to get the full-Jenell, not the one who is giving and loving out of a deficit. So, just like we schedule in meetings and events, it’s important that we are scheduling in me time and doing things our bodies and minds NEED to feel recharged and ready to take on the world like a BOSS.
I cannot believe that the year is about to be over! Where did 2016 go?
As it begins to get a bit colder in Philly, my motivation has dwindled. Sitting on the couch and watching Queen Sugar often wins over doing any type of work. Sad, right? But recently I’ve been getting back in the groove and trying not to wait until 2017 to be motivated again.
