The other day I was in my kitchen peeling a potato (so random), and I thought to myself “I prayed for this.” It’s something about realizing you are living an answered prayer that is humbling. You can see God’s grace working in your life. And me having this “I prayed for” moment was especially important. I was dealing with feelings of overwhelm. The list of things we have to do to our newly purchased was just a tad bit (lies! It was a lot longer) longer than the funds we have. I was also feeling down because earlier this month I was diagnosed with tendinitis in my finger and ordered not to do much with my hands (I probably shouldn’t be typing this). So, I was basically knee deep in a pity party when God showed me that I have so much to be grateful for. Because of that moment, I started to think about the few things, outside of my family, that brought me joy and that I am grateful for this month.
My goal from here on out is to be more present and mindful. I want to savor life. It takes a lot of work to constantly have your mind in the future. I’m not saying that I plan to take my mind off of my goals, but I want to allow myself to be present and enjoy the now. This has a lot to do with trusting God and believing truly that my steps are ordered.
Here’s my February Gratitude List. What are you grateful for this month?
August Green/Common’s NPR Tiny Desk Performance
I love NPR’s Tiny Desk concerts. This one was especially good. The highlights were Brandy singing Optimistic and MumuFresh’s amazing verse. You can check out the clip here.
Tetley’s Immune Honey and Lemon Tea
This tea reminds me a lot of Starbucks’ Medicine Ball, but it’s a heck of a lot cheaper. I took this to battle a cough…I won, lol. Definitely, check this tea out the next time you are feeling a bit under the weather.
I always feel guilty when I do something for myself. I’m not sure why. But this month I went to go and get a manicure, and it was so nice to take some time to do something solely for myself. And before I left the salon, I made sure to schedule a follow-up appointment so I can make it a normal thing.
Black Panther was everything! What I loved most was the fully whole and realized women. It was not either or with the women of Wakanda. They were warriors and lovers. Their goals and desires were not put on the backburner for love. And the Dora Milaje…amazing is all that I can say.
I hope this list makes you think about the things we often overlook in our lives. In the midst of everyday life, it can be difficult to see the simple and amazing things that are happening in our lives. Let’s make sure we are keeping our eye out for the joy as well. I believe writing down and reflecting on the simple things help us find joy in our everyday lives. So, download the gratitude journal and begin docimenting the things you are grateful for.
